just checking in

Hey,
I have been reading the posts off and on, but thought I would check in to let you know I'm still out here! I have been super busy work wise, but also "play" wise. I have learned so much, and Magic is doing so well. She really "listens" to my seat - so I have had to really work on my riding skills - but I am just loving it. I would have to say that the biggest problem I am having is learning to tell whether I'm cueing her to do something that I didn't mean, or she is not listening - but I am thinking that more time in the saddle will fix that. I even rode her some today in this cold - I was hesitant because Magic was really feeling good with the wind blowing, etc. - but I did and am so glad that I worked through that fear. She is really a sweetheart -

anyway - I will try to get someone to take a picture of us so I can post it -

Jeanne

Practice Playday Info

We will have a practice playday this Saturday, Nov. 7th, beginning at 10 am at the Fish Hatchery Arena. We will mess around with setting up the events, trying out the sound system, and making sure the paperwork is in order, all to ensure a smooth show when we finally do the playday for real. This will be informal, relaxed, and just for fun.

It might be a good idea for everyone to bring a cooler with drinks and maybe some snacks to share. I'll go by Pruskis and get some sausage and also bring cheese and crackers. Anybody else want to bring something?
I'm gonna write some articles to finally get back to working on my website.

Amongst the articles already listed on the "Training" page, that are as of yet unwritten, I'm going to do several articles on common, and not so common horse problems.

What I need is suggestions for the top ten problems people have with their horses and any others that may help those of you whose horses may have various behavioral issues.
just checking in - and another question

Hey Tim,
I have been gone from the boards for awhile - too much medical, work & then just not enough playing with Magic! Actually, this last month I have been doing double time with Magic - riding her about 4 days out of the week. She is doing so well - and I am learning so much and having a blast. Because of a variety of things, I have left her at Troys, but it has worked out well as Troy stops and talks me through things and works with me everytime I go out to ride, and I get to sit in and listen to his other lessons - and watch him work his horses - so it has really been good for me. Anyway, Magic has one issue that we just can't figure out how to fix. When she is put out to pasture, and you walk away - or if she is in her pasture and someone walks out to the barn - she comes up to the gate and paws on it. It has become a problem since the area she has been in has concrete at the base of the gate - so she is pawing on concrete and she bruised her foot, and it abscessed. She healed fine - but I worry about it happening again and again. How do I address this issue? She used to paw when I had her at home - to the point where I had to replace a gate that she damaged so badly. I thought when she was home it was because she was alone - but she is with other horses. Troy said it really looks almost like separation anxiety to him - like you would see from a orphan. (I can email her history - she wasn't actually orphaned, but certainly didn't have a good mothering experience as a baby - kind of ugly). Even though I replaced my gates with wire-filled gates so she can't get her leg through and break it, I know when I bring her home I worry about what she will do. Anyway - any advice on what I can do?

Trail Horse for Sale

I've decided to sell Robbie since I need to cut down on my numbers. Jessi now has a new horse. That mare that Joy bought..... well, she is a nice little play day pony that Jessi is having a ball on. She has a little too much go for Joy but is just right to scoot around barrels and poles. Jessi will continue to work with Smokey but she is really enjoying just playing with a finished horse.

Robbie is a arab/qh cross, 14.3, 17 years old. He is a super easy keeper, has great feet, good ground manners. I can trail ride him in my neighborhood with cars, dogs, trash cans, 4 wheelers, etc. and he does great. Jessi rides him bare back, jumps him, slides off his butt, stands on him, canters him with nothing on ..... and all kinds of stupid tricks and he is a real trooper. He has a good personality and if I had plenty of pasture, I'd just keep him for beginners to get on. My little 8 year old niece rode him all over the place when she was here. I'd take $1000 for him to a good home only. PM me for my info.

I'll get Jessi to post a pic of him.
Gonna have some hay for sale.

In a couple of weeks I will have a few hundred bales of pretty darn good hay for sale. It is in a field Tim and I have worked on for over a year. Its been heavily watered and fertilized. Tim and Lisa have been feeding it the past month or so. Just wasn't plentiful enough to sell any. It is about 85 percent Comanche Bermuda, a new hybrid with as much as 14 percent protein, however I figure this will be around 11 or 12 percent. with a little Johnson grass. I am going to let this hay go pretty darn cheap, due to the small amount of Johnson grass which horses love.. Heck they eat it like candy, and its good roughage. Any how if your interested give me a call at 210-316-1163

Terry

P.S. I DO TAKE CREDIT CARDS!!!!
